Marsh St. John's-wort is a plant of lakeshores, sedge fens, and sphagnum peatlands. It grows on wet sand, muck, or mildly acidic peat. The flowers are inconspicuous but later, the seed capsules, and sometimes the entire plant, turn a deep reddish-purple. Pretty in wetland mixtures.
